The Fairy Queen’s Warning – By Joseph Moore
Sing away, play away,
But then hide at break of day
In the rushes, in the reeds,
In the flowers and the trees,
Under stone and under rock,
In the stump where peckers knock.
Lest we stray into their sight
And they join us in delight,
Seeking naught from life but pleasure,
Leaving kith and clan forever.
So be wary in your play!
Make sure you hide at break of day,
For few can come into the light
And willingly go back to night,
Carrying in their soul a spark
To kindle and light up the dark,
Bringing hope to all they meet
Even though their life’s not sweet,
Always holding up a flame,
Helping cold and sick and maimed,
Till giving all to those in life,
Their pain is ended and their strife.
They go to Father that, though once hid,
Saw on this earth all that they did.
He holds them in his heart so dear
And loves to have them very near.
These men are few, so please beware,
And be not to their feet a snare.
So sing and play!
But hide away
Before sun rises
And break of day.
